What is Battle of the Books?

Battle of the Books is a nationwide program to encourage students to read and compete in a quiz bowl type competition. The titles selected encompass various genres of literature and a wide range of reading levels.

The purpose of the Battle of the Books is fourfold:
  • To build reading fluency and comprehension
  • To work cooperatively as a team
  • To create a shared experience with the grade level
  • To give students some wonderful authors/series they might choose to read for outside reading in various genres.

Students work together in teams, and read titles from a list of approximately 10 books.
